The Log Home Plan Book Review

 The Log Home Plan Book

The Log Home Plan Book is an oversized paperback with about 125 pages full of colorful pictures. Basically, the book is made up of examples of existing log homes from various parts of the US. The book shows exterior and interior pictures for each log home, gives the statistics (size, square footage of the various floors, the log producer, the architect, and builder), and also floor plans. Nestled amongst these example homes are tidbits of information such as ideas about lighting your log home, the types of windows that work well in log homes, land and financing information, and various other tips.

The Log Home Plan Book is divided into the following sections:

Introduction
Cabins, Bungalows & Humble Abodes
Family Homes, Cottages & Moderate Residences
Havens, Retreats & Grand Estates
Resources

In case you couldn't guess, the sections basically divide the log homes and cabins by square footage.

The Log Home Plan Book isn't as chock-full of information as Jim Cooper's Log Homes Made Easy, but the addition of floor plans and copious full color glossy pictures make it a good idea book. If you're still in the planning stages of your log home dream, The Log Home Plan Book would be worth looking at. It can help you decide what kind of log home floor plan you want; you may even decide you want to copy one of the styles represented in the book.

At $24.95, the price seems a little high, though The Log Home Plan Book would make a handsome coffee-table book. It's a fairly quick read, and you could also check it out from the library.
