Hands-on Log Homes Review

Hands-On Log Homes

Hands-on Log Homes is a colorful oversized hardback with just under 200 pages. Pages are glossy and replete with full-color pictures of log homes and log cabins. Suggested retail price is $39.95.

This is not a particularly informative book in the way that Log Homes Made Easy is. It basically displays a lot of examples of different types of log homes and log cabins and tells the story of the people who built them. It does include some fascinating details and showcase some really interesting work, but it's definitely more of an idea book than a this-is-how-to-build-a-log-home book. The price make it a pretty expensive idea book, however, it's one of those handsomely constructed books that looks good on the coffee-table.

One of the nice things the book does add is building time and cost for each of the log cabins listed. A lot of books are vague on cost, simply saying you will differ depending on your location and square footage, so it's nice to see some concrete numbers though many of them are several years old.

Overall, I'd probably recommend getting Hands-On Log Homes from the library and forgoing the purchase price.
