Flooring Costs

Log home kits often include particleboard or subfloor, but the finish will be up to you, and the cost will vary depending on the material you use.

Carpet

Carpet deadens noise and is warm underfoot in the colder months (although it can muffle the effects of radiant floor heating systems). It costs $2.50-$4 per square foot.

Hardwood Floors

Carpets may not be the best choice for allergy sufferers (especially wall-to-wall carpeting which can trap dust, mites, dander, etc.), and many prefer hardwood floors as an alternative. They also have a classy look that goes especially well in log homes. Hardwood floors cost between $6-$15 per square foot.

Tile Flooring

Durable tile floors are popular choices in bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, and other high traffic areas. Tile flooring costs between $5-$15 per square foot.

Stone

Stone is as durable as tile, and like hardwoods fits well with the rustic log home look. It can be costly to install though; expect to pay $7.50-$20 per square foot and extra for installation labor.

Linoleum/Vinyl

Linoleum and vinyl are the cheapest flooring materials, and they are easy to maintain. Both are available in numerous patterns and colors. Expect to pay $2.50-$4 per square foot for linoleum or vinyl.
