Log Home Building -- Does Climate or Location Matter?

Log homes can be built in any climate. Today's fungicides, wood sealants and other wood protectors make it feasible to build a log home in any part of the world. Different climates may affect the rate at which the wood settles (see article on log homes shrinking and settling), but this is by no means a deterrent to building.

Log homes can be built in any location. Log home owners often prefer out-of-the-way rural settings, trading the convenience of city life for peace and privacy.

Do keep in mind that extremely rural remote areas will probably increase the expenses involved in getting the logs to the site. If there's no road going to your building site, the construction of a road will have to be included in your cost estimate. Also, building in areas where logs are not native, thus requiring them to be shipped to your location, will likewise increase the cost.

Yes, log homes can be built in any climate in any location; just make sure you factor in the extra costs of building somewhere remote.
